A Fully Revealed Life
This week’s music:
“This is the Day That God Has Made” (VU #175)
“This is the day that God had made!
Rejoice! Rejoice, and be exceeding glad!
This is the day that God has made!
Rejoice! Rejoice! Hallelujah!
Christ has conquered death at last,
Left the tomb that held him fast!
Gone the sorrow, gone the night,
Dawns the morning clear and bright!
Jesus lives who once was dead,
Lives forever, as he said!
Risen now our Saviour, King;
Songs of gladness let us sing!”
This joyful Easter song was written by American composer Natalie Sleeth in 1976. The words reference Psalm 118:24.
“Jesus Christ is Risen Today” (VU #155)
“Jesus Christ is risen today, hallelujah!
Our triumphant holy day, hallelujah!
Who did once upon the cross, hallelujah!
Suffer to redeem our loss. Hallelujah!
Sing we to our God above, hallelujah!
Praise eternal as God’s love;hallelujah!
Praise our God, ye heavenly host,hallelujah!
Praise the Son and Holy Ghost, hallelujah!
This triumphant Easter carol appears in several 14th-century manuscripts. The first verse is taken from a translation of the Latin text as published in 1708. The last verse is by Charles Wesley (1740). The tune, EASTER HYMN, is a model of the new hymnody that was being introduced to English congregations at the beginning of the 18th century.

“Joy Comes with the Dawn” (VU #166)
“Joy comes with the dawn;
Joy comes with the morning sun,
Joy springs from the tomb and scatters the night with her song,
Joy comes with the dawn.
Sorrow will turn,
Sorrow will turn into song, and God’s laughter makes us strong.”
This hymn was written by Gordon Light of the Common Cup Company in 1985. It offers us hope that the darkness in our lives will turn to sunrise.

“Because He Lives”
“God sent His Son
They called Him Jesus;
He came to love, heal, and forgive.
He lived and died to buy my pardon;
And empty grave is there to prove my Saviour lives.
Because He lives I can face tomorrow;
Because He lives all fear is gone.
Because I know He holds the future,
And life is worth the living just because He lives.”
The words and music for this song are by William J. Gaither and Gloria Gather (1971). Hear the full song at: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPW9xYEyijQ
“Bread for the Journey” (MV #202)
“Bread for the journey, food for the way. Cup of God’s blessing, tomorrow, today.”
Today’s communion music was written by Bruce Harding in 2000.
“Hallelujah, Hallelujah, Give Thanks” (VU #179)
“Hallelujah, hallelujah. Give thanks to the risen Christ.
Hallelujah, hallelujah. Give praise to God’s name.
Spread the good news o’er all the earth:
Jesus has died and is risen.
Come let us praise the living God,
Joyfully sing to our Saviour.
The text of this hymn is a series of paraphrases from the letters of Paul. The words and music are by Donald Fishel (1971). Darryl Nixon created this arrangement for publication in the United Church hymn supplement Songs for a Gospel People (1987).
