One:    Today is a day of a promise fulfilled.

All:      With joy we celebrate Pentecost.

One:    Pentecost – a day when power and comfort flowed.

All:      Pentecost – a day of hope and inspiration.

One:    A day when the Holy Spirit was revealed in flaming glory

All:      and the glory was given to the people.

One:    The fire of the Holy Spirit lives on in us. Sing praises!
All:      We sing praises, indeed!

*     Opening Hymn MV #142 – “Oh, a Song Must Rise”

Prayer of Approach and Confession

Spirit of truth whom the world can never grasp, touch our hearts with the shock of your coming;

fill us with desire for your disturbing peace;

and fire us with longing to speak your uncontainable word.

You call us to be your voices in this world and we stay silent.

You call us to be your hands in this world and we keep them hidden.

You call us to be your feet in this world and we go our own way.

When we meet those who are doubting and say nothing,

forgive us.

When we meet those who need your touch and do nothing,   forgive us.

When we are called to take up your cross and carry nothing, forgive us.

Breathe life into us, bring freedom to our lives that we might declare with heart and soul and voice that you are God.

We pray in the name of the Spirit which comes on wind and flame. Amen.
