Faith in Action – đź’— February Edition! đź’—

After church coffee – Thank you to those who have hosted coffee time after church and also to those who have donated treats and helped out with serving!  We would love to be able to offer this social time after church every Sunday, but that will only happen with your help!  There is a sign-up sheet by the office and you can buddy up (or have a larger group) if you like!

Soup Lunch – Thank you to Maxine and friends for offering to host a soup lunch on Feb. 18 after church.  Only 25 tickets are left at $10 each, so get yours soon – you can call the office or sign-up after church this Sunday!  This is a fund-raiser for the church, so come out in support!

Offering counters – Thank you to those who continue to answer this call!  We are currently in need of offering counters February and into March.  There is a sign-up sheet by the office and training is available if you want to give it a try!

Join the Worship Choir for Lent & Easter!
You are invited to sing with the choir for the upcoming season of Lent and Easter.  Practices start on Thursday, February 8 from 7:30-9 p.m.  All welcome!

Book Sale – Our next book sale will be before and after church on February 11.  This “free will offering” sale is a “small but mighty” fund-raiser! Don’t forget to bring some cash/spare change on the 11th!

Little Free Library Guardians – Do you love to see things organized and don’t mind a little cold?  We need a couple of people to keep an eye on our Little Free Library and tidy it when necessary!  People are still using it in the winter, but it often gets a little messy as they dash away after grabbing a book!

Property Committee – Are you able to do small repairs, and general What are Tools? - Twinklmaintenance? Would you be interested in calling someone to help us get some electrical work done? Our property committee could use a hand!  We would love to develop a list of people who can help out with odd jobs or have specialized skills like electrical or wood-working.  Call the office if you can help!

SLEEP IN HEAVENLY PEACE – SAVE THE DATE and SPREAD THE WORD! – We are excited to announce that a special activity is being planned for the spring.  In support of the local non-profit organization, Sleep in Heavenly Peace, we will be hosting a “Bed Build”.

On Saturday, May 25th, WPUC volunteers will gather in the church parking lot to provide the labour and work (assembly-line fashion) under the direction of a core group of volunteers from SIHP. All materials and equipment will be supplied that day. Our goal is to build 20 bed frames during the event. We have been assured that NO (CONSTRUCTION) EXPERIENCE is required to participate so please consider helping as you are able. Family and friends (18 years and older) who are interested in volunteering are also welcome. Registration for the build is limited to 20 volunteers so sign up now at the church!

In addition to the construction of bed frames, we will be collecting bedding prior to the Bed Build. If you find a great deal on (twin-sized) sheets, comforters/blankets, and pillows OR you would like to make a blanket/quilt/afghan in the coming months, all donations will be gratefully accepted. The bedding donations will be presented to the SIHP team for use when the beds are delivered to children in need.

COOKIE BAKERS for West Broadway Community Ministry Meals – A big “THANK YOU” to those who have been bringing in cookies for WBCM! There is an ongoing need for cookies for meals that we will be preparing and delivering to the West Broadway soup kitchen in the coming months. The guests who come to the site for an evening meal are especially fond of homemade treats—which they seldom get. If you can bake and donate a few dozen cookies of any kind (at any time that suites your schedule), please label the package “FOR WEST BROADWAY” and bring your donation to the church during office hours or before Sunday worship at the church. Gwen or Sue will gratefully accept your donation and store it in the freezer until the next meal preparation/delivery day. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Sunday Morning Shovel Crew – Thank you to everyone who has been keeping an eye on the steps and walkways!  If you don’t mind doing a little light shoveling or sweeping, please feel free to come a little early and clear off the steps on Sunday mornings before church.  All of the shovels, melt-it, etc. are just inside the door.  No sign-up required!  (*the parking lot is done by a service – apologies for the ice last Sunday!)

Telephone/Visiting buddies – We are looking for some people to help with the Pastoral care of Windsor Park United.  If you would like to be a part of the group calling or visiting others in the congregation, please let the office know.  We would love to have people who can check in on those who have had surgery or are feeling under the weather!  It would also be nice to have a group making “birthday calls” – a friendly way to let others know we are thinking of them!

INCOME TAX RECEIPTS – You have supported the life and work of WPUC with your donations and now it’s time to stop by and pick up your tax receipt! Tax receipts for 2023 will be available after worship each Sunday or in the office during regular office hours (M, W, Th 9 a.m.-3 p.m.).  Receipts will be mailed out on Wednesday, February 21, 2024 if not picked up earlier, but we’d love to see you at church!

January Worship – Thank you to everyone who helped set-up, run and lead the virtual worship services with Atlantic Garden City United Church in January.  Also, thank you to everyone who came out to the in-person services or watched on line.  We were able to learn a lot about what “worship” means to us via animated conversations and thoughtful email responses.   This is a great help as we move forward together as Windsor Park United Church!

Greeters & Liturgists – Thank you to everyone who has welcomed people to church on Sunday mornings in the role of greeter and to those who are part of our liturgist team that helps lead worship on Sunday morning – your dedication is appreciated!

Pulpit Supply – Special thanks to Alana Davis who has kept our pulpit supply roster filled since May and going forward into the spring!  And thank you to everyone for their friendliness and helpfulness when we have pulpit supply folks visiting us!

“Pitch-in Crew” – The “Pitch-in crew” continues to be active!  From tidying and washing-up, helping with coffee after church, to welcoming and chatting with visitors/new people, we continue to see lots of signs that “we are the church together!” Thank you! You are the unsung heroes of Windsor Park United Church!
