We Gather as People of Faith

Welcome

Lighting the Christ Candle

Call to Worship

One:   Let us gather to worship.
All:      We gather to again have our hearts renewed by the stories and music and companions of our faith.

One:   We gather as disciples of Jesus and companies of the resurrected Christ.
All:      We gather knowing we are both gathered with and gathered together by God.

One:   Let us open our hearts, minds and faith to God.
All:      Let us be worship God.

Please join in the singing of the Hymn: “Make Me a Channel of Your Peace” (Voices United #684)

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there is hatred, let me bring your love.
Where there is injury, your healing power,
And where there’s doubt, true faith in you.

O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.
Where there’s despair in life, let me bring hope.
Where there is darkness, only light,
And where there’s sadness, ever joy.

O Spirit, grant that I may never seek
So much to be consoled as to console,
To be understood as to understand,
To be loved, as to love with all my soul.

Make me a channel of your peace.
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned.
In giving to all that we receive,
And in dying that we’re born to eternal life.

Prayer of Confession and Words of Assurance

God, we come to worship from many places and experiences. We come bringing prayers for many who suffer and struggle. We come also, bearing worries, grudges and fears. We come unaware of the prejudices that may limit our willingness to love others. God, renew our hearts that we may love as Jesus loved, that we may be agents of Your healing and forgiving power in this world. Bless us to be a blessing to others. In Christ’s name we pray. Amen

Words of Assurance

Nothing can separate us from the love of God we have encountered in Jesus. God continues to create and to open our hearts, imaginations and minds to new ways of perceiving, new ways of understanding and new depths of loving. Thanks be to God. Amen

Sung Response – “Grant To Us Your Peace” (Voices United #955)

Grant to us your peace on earth,
Grant to us your peace, O God.

Remembrance

All:      They shall hunger no more, neither thirst anymore. The sun shall not strike them, nor any scorching heat. For the Lamb in the midst of the throne will be their shepherd, and guide them to springs of living water; and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.

(Revelation 7:16, 17)

Words of Remembrance

Last Post

MOMENT OF SILENCE

Reveille

One:   At the going down of the sun and in the morning, we will remember them.
All:      WE SHALL REMEMBER THEM.

Please join in the singing of the Hymn: “O God, Our Help in Ages Past” (Voices United #806)

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
Our shelter from the stormy blast, and our eternal home.

Under the shadow of thy throne thy saints have dwelt secure;
Sufficient is thine arm alone, and our defence is sure.

Before the hills in order stood, or earth received its frame,
From everlasting thou art God, to endless years the same.

A thousand ages in thy sight are like an evening gone,
Short as the watch that ends the night before the rising sun.

Time like an ever-rolling stream soon bears us all away;
We fly forgotten, as a dream dies at the opening day.

O God, our help in ages past, our hope for years to come,
Be thou our guard while troubles last, and our eternal home.

A Story For All: ‘The Peace Kit”

We Hear God’s Word

Scripture Readings

The reading is from the Gospel of Matthew 25:1-13

1 “Then the kingdom of heaven will be like this. Ten young women took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom.

2 Five of them were foolish, and five were wise.

3 When the foolish took their lamps, they took no oil with them,

4 but the wise took flasks of oil with their lamps.

5 As the bridegroom was delayed, all of them became drowsy and slept.

6 But at midnight there was a shout, ‘Look! Here is the bridegroom! Come out to meet him.’

7 Then all those young women got up and trimmed their lamps.

8 The foolish said to the wise, ‘Give us some of your oil, for our lamps are going out.’

9 But the wise replied, ‘No! there will not be enough for you and for us; you had better go to the dealers and buy some for yourselves.’

10 And while they went to buy it, the bridegroom came, and those who were ready went with him into the wedding banquet, and the door was shut.

11 Later the other young women came also, saying, ‘Lord, lord, open to us.’

12 But he replied, ‘Truly I tell you, I do not know you.’

13 Keep awake, therefore, for you know neither the day nor the hour.

May God speak to us through these readings of scripture.
Thanks be to God!

Please join in the singing of the hymn – “Put Peace into Each Other’s Hands” (More Voices #173)

Put peace into each other’s hands and like a treasure hold it,
Protect it like a candle flame, with tenderness enfold it.

Put peace into each other’s hands with loving expectation;
Be gentle in your words and ways, in touch with God’s creation.

Put peace into each other’s hands like bread we break for sharing;
Look people warmly in the eye; our life is meant for caring.

Reach out in friendship, stay with faith in touch with those around you.
Put peace into each other’s hands; the Peace that sought and found you.
