Call to Worship
One We gather today to hear God’s call,
All: May we always follow God’s leading.
One We gather to open ourselves to hear God’s word.
All: May we listen with love.
One We gather to open ourselves to God’s blessing on our lives and on our hurting world.
All: May we respond to God in faithfulness and love.
Please join in the singing of the hymn – “Love Divine, All Loves Excelling” (United Voices #333)
Love divine, all loves excelling, joy of heaven to earth come down,
Fix in us thy humble, all they faithful mercies crown.
Jesus, thou art all compassion, pure, unbounded love thou art;
Visit us with thy salvation, enter every trembling heart.
Come, almighty to deliver; let us all thy grace receive;
Suddenly return, and never, nevermore thy temples leave.
Thee we would be always blessing, service thee as thy hosts above,
Pray, and praise thee, without ceasing, glory in the perfect love.
Finish, then, thy new creation; pure and spotless let us be;
Let us see thy great salvation perfectly restored in thee,
Changed from glory into glory, till in heaven we take our place,
Till we cast our crowns before thee, lost in wonder, love, and praise.
Prayer of Approach and Confession:
Holy God, you call us again and again to be your people and to live love in this world. We confess that there are many times when we ignore your call. We turn away when it is not convenient to follow you. We fail to understand our place in the world. We care for others with words and not with actions. O God, forgive us for turning away. Forgive us for our lack of understanding. Invite us, once again, to action as we seek to live your love and grace, for we pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Scripture Reading:
The first scripture is Psalm 100 and will be sung – “Make a Joyful Noise All the Earth” (Voices United #820)
Make a joyful noise all the earth!
Worship your God with gladness.
Make a joyful noise all the earth.
Come to this place with a song!
Know that your God has made you.
Know it’s to God we belong,
And come to this place with joyfulness and praise.
Worship your God with a song!
Make a joyful noise all the earth!
Worship your God with gladness.
Make a joyful noise all the earth.
Come to this place with a song!
Enter these gates, thanksgiving.
Enter these courts with praise.
Sing thanks to your God and bless the holy Name.
Worship your God with a song!
Make a joyful noise all the earth!
Worship your God with gladness.
Make a joyful noise all the earth.
Come to this place with a song!
Ages through endless ages,
Seasons of endless years,
The love of our Maker ever shall endure.
Worship your God with a song!
Make a joyful noise all the earth!
Worship your God with gladness.
Make a joyful noise all the earth.
Come to this place with a song!
The Gospel is from the Book of Matthew 9:35-10:8
35 Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
1 Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.
2 These are the names of the twelve apostles: first, Simon (who is called Peter) and his brother Andrew; James son of Zebedee, and his brother John; 3 Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James son of Alphaeus, and Thaddaeus; 4 Simon the Zealot and Judas Iscariot, who betrayed him.
5 These twelve Jesus sent out with the following instructions: “Do not go among the Gentiles or enter any town of the Samaritans. 6 Go rather to the lost sheep of Israel. 7 As you go, proclaim this message: ‘The kingdom of heaven has come near.’ 8 Heal the sick, raise the dead, cleanse those who have leprosy, drive out demons. Freely you have received; freely give.
May God speak to us through these readings of scripture.
Thanks be to God!
Sermon:
Anthem – “Come with Me into the Fields”
The fields are high and summer’s days are few;
Green fields have turned to gold.
The time is here for the harvesting,
For gathering home into barns.
The harvest is plenty, laborers are few.
Come with me into the fields.
Your arms may grow weary; your shoes will wear thin.
Come with me into the fields.
The seeds were sown by other hands than yours;
Nurtured and cared for they grew.
But those who have sown will not harvest them;
The reaping will not be their care.
The harvest is plenty, laborers are few.
Come with me into the fields.
Your arms may grow weary; your shoes will wear thin.
Come with me into the fields.
Your eyes have seen the holy face of God
Hidden from those who are wise
The reign of God is within your heart
The kingdom of heaven is near!
The harvest is plenty, laborers are few.
Come with me into the fields.
Your arms may grow weary; your shoes will wear thin.
Come with me into the fields.

Offering Prayer
Prayers of the People
The Prayer that Jesus Taught
One: Please join me in praying the prayer Jesus taught us to pray: Our Creator who is like…
All: Our Mother and Our Father, who art in heaven hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive them that trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever and ever. Amen.
We Go Into God’s World
Please join in the singing of the hymn – “Go Make a Diff’rence” (More Voices #209)
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
We are the salt of the earth,
Called to let the people see the love of God for you and me.
We are the light of the world, not to be hidden but to be seen.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
We are the hands of Christ reaching out to those in need,
The face of God for all to see.
We are the spirit of hope, we are the voice of peace.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
So let your love shine on, let it shine for all to see.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
And the spirit of Christ will be with us as we go.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
Go make a diff’rence. We can make a diff’rence.
Go make a diff’rence in the world.
