A Time Called…Easter Season

We celebrated the resurrection of Jesus on Easter Sunday with church services,
family dinners and Easter eggs.
Is Easter over?
What’s next?

It is easy to fall back into “life as normal” after Easter. But, the season of Easter – 40 days – offers us a special time to learn about the events following Easter Sunday.

Historical Roots of Easter Season
The Easter Season – or Eastertide – is the seven weeks after Easter that lead into the celebration of Pentecost, the gift of God’s Holy Spirit on the 50th day.

Finding Meaning in the Tradition
During the Easter Season, the Gospel readings will continue with the events and sightings of Jesus after his resurrection.  We learn about the many appearances of Jesus to the disciples, as well as the doubts and belief of Thomas and Jesus’ promise of an advocate through the Holy Spirit.   The Ascension of Jesus is celebrated on the 40th day of Eastertide (a Thursday), or on the following Sunday.  The Easter Season ends on the Sunday of Pentecost, with the arrival of the Holy Spirit.

Spring is arriving and during the Easter Season we celebrate growth and new life as we watch the world around us return to a time of growth and abundance!

In the church, we learn about the budding faith community in Jesus’ time – the first “Christians.”
We also explore how we, today, can move forward in growing our faith, both personally and as a community.

At Windsor Park United, the Easter season will be full of opportunities to continue to develop our faith:

Marion Willis from St. Boniface Street Links will visit on April 7 and speak about Morberg House and the work being done there.  In support of their work, we can contribute food items (see weekly e-blast for list of items)

Rev. Don McKay will join us on April 14 as we continue to hear the story of the beginning of the Christian faith and the church.
Rev. James Christie will join us on April 21, when we will also have an opportunity to plot the future of our ministry at the Annual Congregational Meeting.

Rev. James Christie continues the story of the first disciples in worship on April 28.

On May 5, Rev. Dawn Ballantine-Dickson will lead us in worship and offer her perspective to our faith journey.

May 12 gives our own Executive Council the opportunity to share with the community as they lead us in worship on Mother’s Day.

We close out the Easter Season on Pentecost Sunday (May 19) when we will be joined by Jim Thiessen from Sleep in Heavenly Peace as we prepare for our Bed Build on the coming Saturday.  Another way to support their work is to donate bedding to be shared with the children receiving the beds.
