Faith in Action – May 20, 2025

WPUC VOLUNTEERS are the BEST! –  Thank you to all the Windsor Park United Church volunteers for all you do for the congregation! We appreciate the hours of work you do behind the scenes to keep our congregation thriving and moving forward!!

Garden cleanup Thank you to everyone who came out to help with the garden clean-up.  The gardens are looking great and are already starting to bloom!

Welcome Diane!   As we continue to get to know our new Minister Candidate, Diane Meredith, please introduce yourself and wear your name tag if you can. Thank you to the teams who are helping with this transition as we learn about our roles in the process.

Save the Date!! Covenanting Service – There will be a special covenanting service for Diane on Wednesday, June 11 at 7 p.m.  More details to follow!

Where’s the Heat? – Thank you to all the hardy souls who were at Sunday service!  Due to the extreme heat earlier in the week, the boilers were shut off for the summer.  The extreme cold was also unexpected, but we are unable to turn the boilers on and off at will!  Until the weather settles, please dress accordingly, as the temperature in the church will fluctuate with the outdoor temperature.

Name Tag Orders are Due!  Reminder that new WPUC name tags will be ordered soon.  Please contact the office if interested. Both magnet and pin type will be available, price to be determined. Deadline for name tag orders is Monday, May 26, 2025.

If you would like to receive the Centennial Newsletter from the United Church,  you can subscribe at The United Church of Canada

Pastoral Care Group – Thank you to the Pastoral Care Group for organizing the Easter Memory Tree during Lent and for holding the service at the Memorial Garden on May 11. If you are aware of anyone from our church community who might benefit  from Pastoral Care support, you can speak with Sue Turley (office@windsorparkunitedchurch.com or 204-256-8792) to share discreetly. If you have some time in your schedule to connect with a shut-in or hospitalized individual from our church community by phone or in person, please reach out to Pat Lumsden (lumsdenpa@mymts.net or 204-254-6301) for more information.

PAR (Pre-Authorized Remittance) InformationMAY IS PAR MONTH (Pre Authorized Remittance) – If you have automatic withdrawals from your bank account to pay your bills, taxes, or mortgage, then you already understand the PAR principle.  Besides being convenient, using PAR for your offering ensures regular monthly givings to help our church’s ministry even when you are away.  You will be providing our congregation a dependable flow of contributions, which increases our overall financial stability.  It also makes for quicker counting on Sunday mornings, which our team of volunteer offering counters appreciates! Please contact the office to sign up or for more information. A void cheque is required.  It’s easy to start and simple to change – thank you to those who are already using the system!

Photo Book – Last Call for Photos!  We have not forgotten about our plan to publish a new church directory, but due to an overwhelming number of needs in other areas of the church, there needed to be a pause in this project.  We have also noticed that there were some people who missed our first photo shoots, so we will be offering 2 “Last Chance” dates to have your photo taken for inclusion in the new directory: Sunday, May 25 from 12-2 p.m. and Monday, June 2 from 3-7 p.m.  These will be drop-in sessions, so please come at the time that’s most convenient for you! Thank you for your patience!

Emergency Food Cupboard – Our current wish list includes: pasta sauce, tea bags (both black and herbal), cream of mushroom soup, vegetable soup, pork and beans, Alphagettie, canned fruits (peaches, pears, pineapple, mixed fruit), canned vegetables (corn, peas, green beans, mixed vegetables, mushrooms), small peanut butter, small boxes of cereal, canned cat and dog food, crackers, toothpaste. Thank you for your ongoing support!

There are 5 ways to help!

Our collection so far!

2 – We are also collecting donations of new twin-sized bedding. You can bring your contribution in between now and May 25nd  on Sunday mornings or during office hours.  Tables are set up at the back of the sanctuary for all items that are contributed. Any support that you can provide is greatly appreciated! We are hoping to meet or exceed our total of 100 items collected last year. All donations will be packed and transported to the Bed Build for Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers to use when they install the beds.

3 – Thank you to everyone who signed up to help make sandwiches for the Bed Build Participants – we have all the volunteers we need!  Sandwich making will take place on Friday, May 30, from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the downstairs kitchen.

4 – We need more cookies! If you would like to provide cookies for the volunteers to snack on, please use the sign-up sheets at the church and then drop off your cookies on Wednesday, May 28 or Thursday, May 29 between 9:30-3 p.m.  (Also, thank you to everyone who signed up to provide muffins!  Those can also be dropped up during the times above.)

Or…5 –  you can help by serving snacks and meals to the Bed Build volunteers on Saturday, May 31,  from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. As this task will be off-site, we can help with carpooling if you need. If interested, please sign the appropriate poster in the lobby.

Prayers:

  • Our thoughts and prayers are with those who are impacted by the extreme heat/weather changes we have been experiencing in Manitoba, particularly those without indoor shelter and those attempting to care for their health and safety needs;
  • Our thoughts and prayers are with those whose lives and property have been affected by fires in these extremely dry conditions; those who have experienced evacuation and those attempting to meet their needs for hospitality, and those involved in firefighting and fire prevention measures across the province and the country.
