Homecoming / Communion

Approach

Gathering Song VU #395 – “Come In, Come In and Sit Down”

Welcome, lighting the candle and announcements

Call to Worship

One: People of God, look about and see the faces of those we know and love.

All: We see neighbours and friends here, sisters and brothers and a community of kindred hearts.

One: People of God, look about and see the faces of those whom we may not know.

All: We see newcomers, forgotten friends and ones who need an outstretched hand.

One: People of God, look about and see all the images of God assembled here.

All: In me, in you, in each of us, God’s Spirit shines for all to see.

One: People of God, come!

All: Let us worship together.

Opening Hymn – “When We Come Together”

Prayer of Approach

God of life, in our better moments we are aware that you bless us daily, and that you call each one of us to be a blessing to others. May this hour be a time of thanksgiving and renewal. Let us remember that we stand in a long line of inspiring people whose energy and faith have served your kingdom through this church. Let us, like them, live creative and loving lives. Teach us to be grateful for the gifts you offer to us, and may we walk together in the spirit of Christ. Amen.

Passing the Peace

Hymn VU #223 – “Eternal, Unchanging, We Sing”

The Word

Scripture Reading:

Psalm 121
Matthew 9:9-13

Hear what the Spirit is saying to the Church
Thanks be to God!

Meditation – “What is This Thing Called Church?”

Anthem – “We are People of Faith”

The Response

Offering / Response: “In Gratitude and Humble Trust” (VU #544)

In gratitude and humble trust we bring our best today
To serve your cause and share your love with all along life’s way.
O God, who gave yourself to us in Jesus Christ, your Son,
Teach us to give ourselves each day until life’s work is done.

Offering Prayer

We bring our gifts to you, God. Here is the work of our hands, and here is the love of our hearts. Accept them and use them, through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Communion

Closing Hymn MV #145 – “Draw the Circle Wide”

Commissioning / Benediction

Response

With a vision of hope, we move along.
Empowered by faith we carry on.
Reaching out far and wide, moving forward, reaching high.
Filled with hope, filled with dreams, we journey on.
