JEROLD (JERRY) TALMAN Peacefully, with his family at his side, Jerold (Jerry) Talman passed away on January 4, 2007, at the Riverview Health Centre. Jerry was predeceased by his father Marion, mother Annie, and brothers Walter, Stuart, Richard, Bill and sister Dorothy. He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Dorothy of Winnipeg, sons Clark of Vancouver and Curtis (Brenda) of Winnipeg. Also mourning his passing are Jerry's sister Ruth Moreland (Mel) of Brandon, special niece Lynda Miscavish (Dwayne) of Winnipeg, and nephew Jamie Moreland (Tracy) of Brandon, along with many other nieces, nephews cousins and numerous friends. Jerry was born September 9, 1932 in Antler, SK and was raised in the farming communities of Fertile, SK and Melita, MB. After completing high school he worked for the Royal Bank in Melita and the town office in Minnedosa.
In 1953 Jerry moved to Flin Flon where he was employed by Midwest Diamond Drilling, transferring to the company's Winnipeg office in 1957. In 1959 Jerry entered the employ of United Grain Growers, becoming Accounting Supervisor of the Capital Assets and Construction Department in 1965, a position he held until his retirement in 1988. Jerry married Dorothy (nee Clark) in 1963 and they began their married life in Winnipeg. They decided that country living was a good way to raise their sons, so the family moved to a hobby farm near Starbuck in 1974, where Jerry and Dorothy remained until returning to Winnipeg in 1997. Jerry enjoyed life and people and always held firm in his belief of giving back to the community through volunteerism. Throughout his life he was involved in numerous activities and interests, some of which include: the Winnipeg Jaycees, Starbuck Masonic Lodge #160 (becoming Worshipful Master in 1983), the Starbuck Hall and Recreation Centre, the Starbuck Shadow (a local newspaper he created with Dorothy in 1993), the Starbuck Moonlighters (a local vaudeville troupe), the Starbuck United Church Dinner Theatre, Starbuck United Church, the Lexington Village Condo Association, and Windsor Park United Church. In 1999 he volunteered at the Pan Am Games and was one of the original Gold Wing Ambassadors at Winnipeg International Airport. During his retirement he and Dorothy travelled extensively and particularly loved holidaying with dear friends. Before his health declined, Jerry enjoyed curling and golf. In his younger days he was an enthusiastic five-pin bowler and was also known for his pitching ability when playing baseball with the Winnipeg Men's Industrial League. A celebration of Jerry's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, January 17, 2007 at Windsor Park United Church, 1062 Autumnwood Drive, Winnipeg. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to Dr. James Johnston, nurse Erin Elphee, nurse Preetha in the GA4 ward of Health Sciences Centre, as well as all of the wonderful and caring staff at E-3 Riverview Health Centre, especially Linda, Helen, Myriam and Barb.
