On January 12, 1989 at his home. JOHN STUART CLAYTON, aged 78 years, beloved husband of Nellie of 31 Clarendon Rd., Winnipeg. Mr. Clayton was born in Bridgewater, Somerset, England on August 9, 1910 and came to Canada in 1927 at the age of 17 years. He attended the University of Saskatchewan and earned a Masters Degree in Science in 1934. He was employed by the Federal Department of Agriculture as a soils scientist at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon; moved to Ottawa in 1967 and finished his career at the Federal Research Station in Ottawa, retiring in 1972. He travelled to Thailand as a consultant to C.I.D.A. in 1974. He married Nellie Mitchell on September 11, 1937. He took great pleasure in his cottage at Pike Lake near Saskatoon, spending extended summers there since his retirement. Mr. Clayton is survived by his daughter, Enid and husband, Con Butler and grandchildren Susan and Jennifer; his son Alan, grandchildren Joanne and Ian and their mother Cecile; all of Winnipeg; his son, Laurie, and wife, Cadi, and grandchildren, Anna and Stephanie of Ottawa; his brother Alan in England; other relatives and many friends in Saskatoon, Ottawa, and Winnipeg. A Memorial Service to celebrate the life of John Stuart Clayton will be held on Monday, January 16, 1989, at 3:30 pm in Windsor Park United Church, Autumnwood and Cottonwood, Winnipeg. Cremation has taken place. No flowers please.
